Creation of a description model for SoS and survey of industry partners for the validation of SoS using the example of Vehicle-to-Everything.

Description of the topic

In the early 20th century there was the first consideration that the complexity of systems requires a structured methodical approach. Bell Telephone Labratories used the term systems engineering to apply the approach throughout the product development process [Schlager, 1956; Hall, 1962; Fagen, 1978]. They investigated that the proper function of a component does not necessarily enable the proper function of the overall system. In today's world with an increasing digitization in services and products, there exist systems of systems (System-of-Systems), which are characterized by autonomy but also by a function in the SoS. A well-known example is Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X). Here, a vehicle communicates with other systems. In the context of the bachelor thesis, you are to develop a description model for SoS as well as investigate the need for validation of SoS using the example of V2X.

Task:

At the beginning, a literature research and the creation of a survey are to be carried out. After building a description model, surveys are to be conducted in industrial companies and among scientists. At the end, the findings are to be compiled and evaluated. The survey is to be conducted using the commercial tool LimeSurvey provided by KIT.

Possible research questions:

  • What needs do individual industries see in the validation of SoS or V2X?
  • How should validation environments for SoS or V2X be structured?
  • What are the requirements for methods for validating SoS or V2X?
  • How can SoS be described appropriately?

Profile:

  • Previous experience in (MB)SE and the validation of systems is an advantage, but not mandatory
  • Independent way of working
