Produktentwicklung umfasst, wie im integrierten Produktentstehungsmodell iPeM dargestellt, nicht nur eine Vielzahl von Aktivitäten, die unterschiedlichste Disziplinen zusammenführen, sondern auch die Schnittstellen zum operativen Management, zum Wissensmanagement sowie zu Verbesserungsprozessen. Innerhalb dieses Rahmenwerks muss der Entwickler in seinem Tun eine Vielzahl von Anforderungen und Einschränkungen berücksichtigen, die häufig nicht explizit in einem Zielsystem formuliert sind.

Product development comprises, as depicted in the integrated product formation model (iPeM), not only a variety of activities that merge the most different disciplines, but also the interfaces of the operating management, the knowledge management as well as the improvement processes. Within this framework, the developer must consider in his action a multitude of requirements and constraints that are often unexplicitly formulated in a target system.
