Das Produktionssystem bildet die Summe aller zur (Teile-)Fertigung und Montage eines Produkts notwendigen Produktionsprozesse und der damit verwendeten Anlagen, Maschinen, menschlichen Arbeitsleistung, Informationsverarbeitung und weiteren Ressourcen. In Anlehnung an Eversheim (1989) umfasst das Produktionssystem neben den Elementen zum technischen Herstellungsprozess auch organisatorische Elemente zur Planung, Entwicklung, Steuerung und zum Betrieb der Produktionsprozesse.

The production system is the sum of all production processes required for the (parts) manufacture and assembly of a product and the plant, machinery, human labor, information processing and other resources used for this purpose. Following Eversheim (1989), the production system includes not only the elements for the technical manufacturing process but also organizational elements for the planning, development, control and operation of the production processes.
