Handover in IPEK’s leadership completed: Prof. Albert Albers hands over the Chair of Product Development and Drive Systems to Prof. Tobias Düser
On April 1, 2026, IPEK will take an important step in the further development of its leadership: The handover of the Chair of Product Development and Drive Systems from Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Albert Albers to Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Düser will be fully completed. The transition has been systematically prepared and consistently implemented over the past three years. This ensures that ongoing projects, processes, and strategic development initiatives can be seamlessly continued. Projects already underway that were initiated under Prof. Albers’ leadership will be continued by him until their completion. Ongoing doctoral projects with him as the doctoral advisor will also continue as before.
With his transition to (semi-)retirement, Prof. Albers remains closely connected to IPEK and active within the IPEK team. He will continue to support the institute with his experience and in an advisory capacity, thereby ensuring continuity in science, research, and personal supervision.
At the same time, the institute’s leadership is evolving into a shared responsibility: Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Düser, Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sven Matthiesen, and Managing Director Akad. Dir. Sascha Ott will jointly lead IPEK into the future. The future institute leadership builds upon Prof. Albers’ many years of work in establishing, developing, and leading the institute.
IPEK is linked to Prof. Albers by more than three decades of dedicated and influential work in research, teaching, and innovation in product development. The institute extends its heartfelt thanks to him for his extraordinary contributions, his lasting impact on the development of IPEK and the KaSPro—Karlsruhe School for Product Development—as well as for the trust with which he is helping to shape the institute’s next phase.
The institute wishes Prof. Düser every success in assuming the chair and in shaping the future of IPEK.
