IP as Accelerator of Research in the Innovation Process - Interview with KIT Vice President Prof. Dr. Kraft

IP not only brings great individual progress for the participating students. Research on innovation processes also benefits from the direct application of new findings in this field. In addition, the respective partner companies benefit from the knowledge transfer and the opportunity to actively experience the state of the art of research on product development methodology and to help shape it themselves.
At the beginning of the Open Innovation Project IP, a task is formulated in cooperation with the participating company that is far from being a technical solution. How do the students manage to develop their product idea to a first prototype in only 6 months? Apart from their general education at KIT, this is mainly due to the successful application of research for integrated product development. The special thing about this is the direct participation of the scientific staff of IPEK, who can validate the current state of their research in IP. This leads to a direct exchange between research and teaching and triggers a great motivation of both sides for the success of the project.

Interview with Prof. Dr. Kraft

It is precisely this exchange on the topics of innovation processes and development methodology that allows these topics to benefit enormously. In this way, scientific findings can be validated and further developed in an interactive way.

Overall, the KIT strongly focuses on the transfer of its own research into society. IP is a best practice example of this with its participation of companies and also contributes to the development of the region. Many companies still underestimate the opportunities created by the application of development methods and scientifically supported innovation processes.

We would like to thank Prof Dr Kraft for the interview and the motivating words!
