Building a virtual environment for demonstrating the importance of credibility in autonomous vehicle validation.

  • Subject:Autonomes Fahren, Validierung, Game-Engine
  • Type:Bachelor-/Masterarbeit
  • Tutor:

    Jonas Freyer M.Sc.

Motivation

Due to the infinite amount of possible scenarios, the validation of autonomous vehicles is a challenge. Although it is possible to significantly reduce the amount of real test kilometers by virtual testing, the credibility or trustworthiness of the results must also be proven in virtual validation. To demonstrate the importance of a valid toolchain for simulation results, a virtual demonstrator environment based on a game engine will be designed and built.

Tasks

You will first perform a systematic familiarization with the virtual validation of autonomous vehicles. Special focus will be put on the "credibility" of validation environments. Subsequently, you will select a suitable framework (e.g. Unreal Engine, CARLA, BeamNG.tech, etc.) for a demonstrator. In the next step, a driving function is to be mapped in the validation environment. Finally, the importance of credibility shall be shown in an exemplary application.
