Effectiveness and efficiency are playing an increasingly important role in product development. In order to develop a product successfully, the production system associated with the product should be considered at the earliest possible stage. One possible approach to this is the so-called product-production co-design. The use of digital technologies, such as the digital twin, offers new, as yet unused potential that needs to be identified in future research work.

Goal & Task:

The aim of your work is to generate a comprehensive knowledge base on Digital Twins and their potential areas of application in product development, in particular also taking into account product-production co-design, i.e. considering the associated production system development. By means of suitable interview studies, it is therefore necessary to find out what is currently associated with the use of digital twins and at what stage the implementation is. Based on this, you will identify fields of action as well as associated success factors to be considered when using Digital Twins in industry.

Profile:

  • You are studying in the field of engineering, economics or mechatronics
  • You can organize yourself well and are characterized by good communication skills
  • You are fascinated by the use of digital technologies in product development
  • You enjoy working independently and in a structured manner
  • You are motivated to bring in your own ideas and impulses
