Bio-based natural fiber composites (NFC) have great potential for the development of sustainable products, but their mechanical properties and other problems, such as moisture absorption, limit their use. However, with the help of a hybrid material approach, in which the NFC is selectively reinforced with unidirectional carbon fiber tapes (CF tapes), an improvement in mechanical properties can be achieved. With an initially isotropic topology optimization of the NFC component, initial design proposals with increased stiffness can be generated. In order to make optimum use of the additional stiffening effects resulting from the unidirectional CF tapes, these must be integrated into a multi-stage optimization method. In particular, the influence of different laminate structures and strength criteria should be taken into account.

Aufgabe:
  • Implementation of a multi-stage optimization approach
  • Integration of a suitable strength criterion into the optimization method
  • Investigation of the influence of different laminate structures
Profil:
  • Ability to work independently
  • Interest in the automation of simulation and optimization processes
  • Basic knowledge of programming
