The increasing need for individualization of products leads to an increasing number of variants and derivatives in one generation. The additional growing need for sustainability and digitization means that today's products must be designed to be more robust. These megatrends therefore pose a new challenge to product creation, for example, whether products are robust in every future, every generation and every variant. There are several ways in which robustness can be integrated into the product creation process.

Goal & Task:

The goal of your work is to sift through the notion of robustness in product creation and describe it in the context of product generation development. Your first task will be to identify and analyze existing approaches dealing with robustness. With the help of the analysis, you will initially synthesize types of robustness in product development and create descriptions. Finally, you will evaluate the types with experts in strategic and modular product development and identify and describe types to be added.
