  • Standardization through modular systems is a means of securing knowledge and know-how. They offer enormous cost-saving potential in product development and consist of modules as well as an associated set of rules. The goal of a modular system is to generate a high degree of external diversity (as many products as possible) with a low degree of internal diversity (few module characteristics).

    The choice of the individual modules as well as their characteristics is not easily feasible. It is essential to consider the use cases of the product. The execution of this process can usually no longer be done manually or with classical optimization algorithms. Evolutionary algorithms offer a possibility to solve this problem.

    Task:

    • Familiarization with optimization with Evolutionary Algorithms
    • Research of different performance measures for modular optimization
    • Comparison and evaluation of the different approaches and algorithms
    • Implementation of the required building blocks
    • Optimization of the building block modules

    • You are a student of mechanical engineering/mechatronics
    • You are interested in product development, optimization and 3D modeling
    • You have basic knowledge of programming (desirable, not required)
