Work description

In simple terms, the digital twin is a digital image of a real object. Since this is being researched in the various disciplines of mechanical engineering and there are different manifestations, there is a lack of a uniform definition. This makes it difficult to exploit synergy effects. A conceptual model description of the digital twin in product development should facilitate communication.

Task:

At the beginning, a systematic literature research on the current state of research is carried out. Thereby a comparison of the different definitions of the digital twin in the different fields like production engineering, product development, ... will be created. This will be followed by an elaboration of the purposes and opportunities of the digital twin in product development. A structured, model-based description will thereby make the concept of the digital twin in product development more tangible.
