Braking systems are one of the most important safety components in a vehicle. During each braking process, fine dust emissions are generated, which pose a danger to man and machine. In order to investigate the mechanisms behind this wear particle generation, the TRP - dry friction test rig (see Fig. center) was extended to include a particle collection system. This test rig can be used to collect and investigate particulate emissions from brakes.

Task:

As part of the final thesis, a simulative investigation of the sampling system is to be carried out. CFD simulations are to be used to investigate the movement of the wear particles in the sampling system. The main objective of this investigation is to identify the particle motion in the pipe system. Proposals for design improvement of the sampling system will be derived from the obtained findings.

Profile:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics and information technology, engineering, mathematics or similar field of study.
  • Previous experience in CFD simulations
